Normal Values
-Serum

  1. Adult: 24 -151 U/L
  2. Neonate: 5-56 U/L

-Urine

  • Adult: 4-30 IU/2 hours (2-hour test)

 

Purpose of the Test

  • To investigate the cause of severe abdominal or epigastric pain (esp. pancreatic disorder is suspected)
  • To evaluate pancreatic dysfunction (severe Cystic Fibrosis)

 

Increase in

  • Acute pancreatitis
  • Pancreatic disorder (trauma,abscess,cancer)
  • Obstruction of the pancreatic duct

 

 Decrease in

  • Cystic pancreatitis
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • Pancreatic cancer

 

Interfering Factor

-Serum

  1. Ingestion of alcohol
  2. Narcotic medications

-Urine
